[Although he's glad Washington told him, he's not happy to hear about this especially with Brennan also still being gone. But three people at once is a lot, especially since Lance knows Kyna and Harlan are from the same world, and so suspicion is helping temper the dismay at hearing this news.]
Thank you for telling me. I know Harlan; is Tucker also from their world?
it's been a while since we last talked, but i wanted to thank you for giving me the advice you did. things are better.
[Not perfect - he isn't confident enough to say that - but significantly improved. Lance probably thinks he's a headcase but people have thought worse things about Nate.]
You don't have to thank me, but I'm really glad to hear that.
[Knowing he was able to help in any way, even for one person and for one thing, means a lot to him and makes everything else about being here a bit easier.]
[Text etiquette makes greetings obselete anyway. But omg no he's nocturnal why do you do this??? but no do it]
Right now I think it's best to be cautious but operate assuming it's telling the truth. The Null haven't shown themselves to be good liars, if capable of it at all, so it seems unlikely this is a ruse.
[Michael's fever breaks and it's like waking up from sleepwalking. A thing he... actually has experience with, but never like this. He has only vague memories of some of the things he said and did; he's still weak and out of it from the sickness. But he remembers what the Visitor did. And it makes him immediately stumble off to find where he locked his phone.]
oh godoh god jesus christ I'm so sorry are yuo okay? please be okay I'm sorry I didnt mean any of that holy shit
[Lance doesn't respond immediately, not on purpose but because he's asleep himself; some of the injuries have been healed through the spell in Kyna's necklace, but the remaining damage and the last of the event-caused illness are still a lot to deal with.
But when he does wake up an hour or two later and checks his phone, he's a little surprised and it takes a few more minutes for Lance to piece things together. He definitely feels drastically different than he did, at least mentally, and starts to really realize that it must've been an event and what exactly that event did.
So, finally, he sends a very simple message back, too tired to carefully craft a response.]
[It's not great news, by any means, but he knows it must be so incredibly much worse for Drake. Drake definitely guesses what Lance was going to ask, so instead--]
[Ah, these messages are never fun for anyone involved. He had only spoken to Kat a few times, but she'd been pretty great so he definitely means it when he responds, even if it's simple--]
[It's late in the evening on the 24th when Edgar decides to take up on the offer that Lance had made few months ago back in the feast. He hadn't been exactly serious when asking about the counselling but he was curious. Doctor had knowledge about humans that he didn't -- something that could be useful too.
Usually when he pays a visit to someone he doesn't bother using a door. There are almost always a window open or some other hole that he could use to crawl inside. But this time he's not trying to sneak in and out like a shadow in the night. So he actually knocks on the door, steps back and crosses his arms behind his back while waiting.]
[He appreciates the knock on the door, because Lance is slightly jumpy and would definitely not be happy with someone coming through a window especially with how high up in the spire he lives. His windows are almost always closed too, so that wouldn't have helped.
As it is he's just a little perplexed about who might be at his door, opening it cautiously before recognizing just who it is. The caution fades then, but his confusion just increases.]
( There are nights where dreams make it impossible to stay in bed any longer, where her eyes keep fluttering shut despite her best efforts and coffee because there's been maybe an hour's rest total, all of it awful.
(And, no matter what Kate will claim, even superhumans need sleep sometimes.)
These are the mornings she pushes herself harder with her running, out in the light rain and cold night air, and the ones where she knocks on Lance's door earlier than usual to get started with their run.
She could do with the company, with some complaining that will take her mind off crumbling brick and earth and far too much blood. )
[Lance answers the door relatively quickly, but it's probably apparent by his appearance that that's because he was already awake. Or, more accurately, he hadn't gone to bed yet, and the resulting zombification is why he's not outwardly as confused and annoyed as he feels.]
Why are you at my door at...
[Whatever time it is? His eyebrows furrow and he squints at her briefly like the answer might be on her face, but then pulls his phone from his pocket to check it.]
