I feel like you're confused by what 'not interested' means.

[The temptation to say no, he's not done, or just otherwise imply it is so incredibly strong. But it's also just causing problems for the sake of it, which is not actually his style no matter how much the petty side of him would absolutely love that.

[Which means absolutely nothing if he changes his mind, but he doesn't think he will. It definitely means nothing for the future, though.]

[ That's enough. This is not a conversation worth having while either of them are in any kind of a mood - foolish perhaps to take him at his word, but aside from this slip it seem in Lance's character to be purposefully belligerent to the detriment of group cooperation.

He did what he believed to be the right thing and didn't have the opportunity to do any harm with it. That's not enough immediate cause to make a full-fledged enemy out of anybody, no matter how infuriating he is. ]
