NAME: Dr. Lance Sweets
CANON: Bones
AGE: 31 (Coincidentally. This includes time spent in previous game.)
CANON POINT: Just before his death at the end of episode 10.01

HISTORY: Wiki link; please let me know if you need more than that!

PERSONALITY: Lance is first presented as the very young and potentially naïve psychologist Booth and Brennan are stuck seeing, and for some time that façade is kept up. He certainly doesn't do anything to contradict it, at least aside from trying to get them to take him seriously as a psychologist, but as he grows closer to Booth and Brennan and vice versa, more of his personality begins to show and it becomes clear he's more worldly than he lets on.

He’s gentle and compassionate towards others, genuinely wanting to help them, and becomes very personally invested in their well-being. Maybe a little too invested sometimes. Another psychologist describes him like a baby duck that had lost its parents and imprinted upon another family, in this case Brennan and Booth, and it's not inaccurate; Lance's traumatic early life and then the recent death of his loving adoptive parents left him feeling alone and isolated, but over time he finds his place in the extended family and friends at the FBI and Jeffersonian. It takes a long time for him to genuinely bond with someone (as opposed to surface level politeness and general kindness), but once he does his relationships are incredibly strong.

Lance's sense of empathy and compassion is very strong, he's good at identifying and sympathizing with people, and he tends to mirror others' moods; if someone he cares about is upset, he feels for them. Although he's good at maintaining professional distance (for the most part), particularly in criminal investigations, in personal situations he's very emotionally invested in his friends and family.

He’s somewhat insecure and seems to have low self esteem, bouncing from overconfidence to self-deprecation quickly depending on the situation, and he takes failure hard and personally. Although confident in his chosen field of psychology, he doesn’t always feel he’s a personally useful member of the team; on the other hand, he can be prickly and defensive about anyone insinuating such. Although he usually keeps it out of his professional life, he can be somewhat reckless and impulsive when trying to prove himself. When focused on a task or a goal, he's exceptionally determined and tenacious, although he's willing to admit when he's wrong if proven to be so.

He can be a bit selfish at times, letting his curiosity or wants override his consideration toward others, which is a trait seemingly at odds with most of his compassionate and sensitive personality. It’s also one he begins to grow out of, which indicates it’s more of an immaturity flaw and stems from insecurity, although it does show up in other forms now and then; he has a bad habit of saying something factual without quite considering what effect it might have, although this is pretty much always in an informal setting with friends rather than a professional one. He can also be very scathing, although that’s usually intentional; he has no patience for willingly cruel people, especially those who mistreat children.

Once he gets talking he can go for some time, which often annoys his friends. He has the humorous (and also annoying at times, to his coworkers) habit of switching how he's talking in middle of a sentence, beginning very formal and clinical and ending with slang or a ‘totally.’ He’s expressive, gesturing, sighing, rolling his eyes, and generally displaying his emotions openly; he doesn’t seem to be all that good at hiding them even when put on the spot. He’s also a terrible liar, at least to people he cares about, but he’s good at keeping secrets whether about himself or others. He's also a decent actor, usually when trying to manipulate a suspect. How bad he is at lying, concealing his emotions, etc depends on how prepared he is; if he goes into a situation intending to be in control of those things then he's good at it, but if surprised or caught off guard he's terrible.

Morally he’s very strict, especially when it comes to his professional work, but personally he can admit to not always taking the high road. He admits to a friend that he feels a serial killer who was murdered got what they deserved, and to Booth that he doesn’t disagree with Booth’s lament about not having shot another murderer in the back when he had a chance. In actions, however, Lance very much does what’s right, whether or not that’s where his personal thoughts are.

CRAU: Bullet points for ease, but please let me know if you need more than this!

• Lance arrives in Hadriel, coming from the middle of a fight that, in canon, is fatal. Although healed enough not to immediately die, he's still seriously injured and that causes some problems during his early months (he thinks he's dreaming or hallucinating for most of the first month, and remembers very little of what happened the first few weeks other than some specific interactions.) He meets several people right away who become influential in his development, including Nate, Maketh, and Rosen.

• Manages to get involved with a bunch of drama in month two, specifically two major incidents. The first is being asked by the Guard (the character-run 'neighborhood watch' sort of organization) to use his experience in trying to figure out how to handle an individual (Sato) who's potentially dangerous (and who then murders someone like a week later.) The second is trying to provide some counseling to Maketh, who is one of the Guard leaders, which falls apart in less than a month as Maketh and Lance clash on how to deal with Sato, a knife gets thrown, and it's all downhill from there.

• Because Lance and Maketh now have an utter inability to get along even when trying to be professional, Lance's suggestions to the Guard leaders in general of how to deal with Sato don't go over well, and this basically cements Lance's utter distrust of the Guard; he was already suspicious of them due to previous in game events as well as canon experiences, and so what he feels is obvious corruption in the organization makes him see them as a potential threat.

• For the next few months he pulls back a little in dealing with big issues, instead dealing with surviving events, managing interpersonal stuff as a few castmates arrives, learning to help in the Clinic with some basic and then advanced first aid, and making connections and forming relationships with other people in Hadriel. He also begins learning magic from a new friend, Kyna.

• The main NPC antagonists, the Null, announce themselves and later attack the city, and Lance is involved in the fighting; he had been somewhat neutral as far as taking sides ideologically between the Null and the 'gods' running Hadriel, but although he's not on the gods' side he's also not about the Null attacking the city. He isn't seriously injured in the fighting, but it takes an emotional toll especially since he has conflicts with other characters at the same time.

• Again, for the next for months he backs off on things, feeling betrayed by a friend and completely out of his element and alone in dealing with a few issues goes on. He spends most of that time developing relationships with the people he does trust, and practicing magic.

• A rogue Null called Name announces its presence to the network, and it becomes a conflict among the population whether it can be trusted in its claims not to want to fight. Two major groups form to try to find Name, who is damaged and trapped somewhere in the city; one wants to destroy Name, thinking it's dangerous, and the other wants to protect Name in hopes that it means what it says and a belief that it would be wrong to kill it if it's peaceful. Lance is in the latter group, and is eventually contacted by Name with Name's coordinates. He sends the information to Nate, who successfully finds Name, and they meet with some others to figure out what to do. It's agreed to shuffle around who's guarding Name and where Name is, in order to prevent it from being found and killed by other characters or the gods.

• The next several months are mostly uneventful outside of normal life in a jamjar, and Lance spends most of the time dealing with interpersonal conflicts, protecting Name, surviving events, and working on personally issues (like coming to terms with his death at home.) He also becomes more and more adept at magic, which is important, because--

• The final battle happens. Name comes through for everyone, and after a group infiltrates the Null's base, Name uploads a virus that kills all the Null, including itself. Lance isn't involved in this group, staying back to defend the city instead, and when the fighting ends and they're given the opportunity by the gods to go back home or to other worlds, he leaves for Kyna's world.

• For CRAU personality development his core personality is the same, but a few qualities have shifted directions or intensities. He's more confident, having handled a lot of situations and gone through a lot of experiences and come out the other side, and so he's less likely to be defensive or reactionary to perceived slights and more likely to involve himself in a productive way in a situation that calls for it. However, the other side to that confidence is that he has less patience for people being selfish, reckless, or unkind, and will be more quickly and more scathingly responsive to them. Because of bad experiences he's even more guarded than he already was with getting to know people beyond surface level, and is also more deliberately manipulative in interactions with people he dislikes or is just unsure of. His empathy and sense of justice are as strong as ever despite everything, and it's only been reinforced to him that doing the right thing turns out for the best in the end.

SPECIES: Human
APPEARANCE: Picture!
SKILLS: Lance is a psychologist with two doctorates (one in clinical psychology and another in behavioral analysis) and work experience in counseling and criminal profiling. He's also an FBI special agent, and apparently a very good shot (although he rarely even draws his gun, let alone uses it.) He's a writer and has published three books, and also a talented musician and singer. He was a ranked chess player in college and had to quite due to being too obsessed with it, but is still very skilled ten years later. He speaks Spanish, and knows enough first aid to do all the basics plus stitches and the sort of field aid needed when there are no doctors around.

NEW POWER: Audio/sound/air pressure manipulation. At the starting level, it'd be the generation of pretty obnoxious high pitched screeching and other simple, single-tone sounds.
POWER REASONING: Lance is talented at music, so I wanted to give him something related to it (most of the other powers that I would've considered for his psychology talents are already game features or would be difficult to work with.) I thought sound and air pressure manipulation would be an interesting and relevant power.
