[Ooookay. Time to save the day by being obnoxious. Kyna wiggles away from Wash just enough to poke at Lance's shoulder.]

Hey, can I psychoanalyze you now? Unless you're afraid I'm gonna show you up.

[Lance watches Washington for just a moment, but is more than content to turn his attention toward Kyna. It isn't his goal to make any of this uncomfortable, after all, so he responds to her question with a light comment of his own.]

As long as you don't use the same fourth-grade joke I did about knowing what you're thinking, sure.

[ Wash almost comments that she can actually do that, there are spells for it, before remembering her magic is gone and that'd be a terrible thing to bring up. So he stays quiet, waiting to hear Kyna's surely spectacular insight. ]

[She tries desperately not to smirk, but she does anyway.]

I think you have deep-seated trauma because your parents never let you have a pet, so you terrorized everyone with a goat instead. And you're kind of a dork.

[When she starts, he is--for just a moment--afraid she's somehow figured it out and, not only that, is about to actually say it. So for that moment he's frozen, a brief look of shock crossing his face, but it's under control an instant later as he hears the rest of what she's saying and realizes it's just a stupid joke. An actually funny, cute stupid joke.

So he manages a genuine smile, even if it might be slightly shakier than usual, voice light when he responds.]

My coworkers deserved having to put up with Fitz, and besides, it wasn't his fault he had to end up at the FBI. But that last part doesn't even count as psychoanalyzing; anyone could tell that much.

[ This is a much lighter topic, and he should be grateful to Kyna for changing it, but he really wants to know what Lance is thinking. He scolds himself to let it go. Don't be paranoid. ]

She's called me a dork, too. I don't know what the criteria for that is.

[No, actually, that makes perfect sense.]

Maybe Lance should give you the... Diagnostic criteria or whatever.

[She definitely puts air quotes around that.]

Yeah, the goat, Fitz. It's a totally fitting name.

[He glances briefly at Washington and then back at Kyna again, glad he seems to have gotten away with his earlier reaction.]

There are different kinds of dorkiness, so I don't know for sure if we have the same qualifications there.

[ Fitz sounds like a perfectly good name for a goat, honestly. ]

Yeah, tell me what kind of dork you are, Lance.

I'm the dork that goes to college at fourteen; we've established this.

[It overlaps with being a nerd of the same type, but still.]

Though yeah, you can be a nerdy dork, or an endearing one, or--

[He stops for a moment, furrowing his eyebrows slightly as he realizes just what conversation they're having.]

Is this really what all that time and money came down to? Discussing categories of dorkiness?

[He has two doctorates okay. Two. Doctorates.]

[ Wait he was how old? ]

Fourteen?

[ Wash can count the number of people he knows who even went to college on one hand. And he's pretty sure even their resident genius Dr Grey was older than that. How many grades did Lance skip, four? ]

[Judging from the way Kyna's smiling, she clearly finds both of them endearing enough.]

Life sucks, huh? And yeah, I forgot, Lance is like, a super genius.

I am not a super genius.

[He corrects that immediately, because sure, he's smart and he knows it, but there's still a disconnect for him when it comes to putting it in those terms. 'Genius' is one of those titles reserved for people like Dr. Brennan.]

But yeah, I went to college early, since I was involved in a program that provided the opportunity and support necessary to do so. That said, as a psychologist, in hindsight I wouldn't necessarily advise anyone to do that.

[ Hmm. In Wash's experience, super geniuses are also pretty eccentric, and Lance seems... normal. Even for a shrink. Maybe especially for a shrink? Fourteen is still impressive, though. ]

I bet socializing was hell.

[Kyna lets out a snort of a laugh.]

Still probably better than high school.

It sucked; no one would give a fourteen-year-old alcohol, not even normal college freshmen.

[Which was a real tragedy, although the comment is half a joke; obvious that was not his main priority. And he gives Kyna a small grin.]

I'll have to take your word for it, but that's definitely the impression I've always gotten.

[ Wash quirks an eyebrow at Kyna, surprised. High school sucks, but. She's a friendly, pretty girl. He would've imagined her being popular. ]

You didn't like high school?

Ugh, God, high school sucked. My brother was there my freshman year, and then I was screwed.

[Lance is way more curious to hear about Kyna's experiences than talk about his own, so he's entirely content to jump on the new topic.]

What do you mean?

[hardwearing]

[ Yeah, he's. Genuinely confused right now. Explain, Kyna. ]

[She shrugs a little.]

My brother was super popular. You know, straight As, total jock, nice to everyone, so no one really screwed with me, and then he graduated.

[She waves a hand dismissively.]

It wasn't like, traumatizing or anything, I just hated all my classes and most of the people sucked.

That makes sense. Public, general schooling methods and systems are very... They really only work the way they're meant to for individuals with certain personality types, and that's disregarding all the social issues that also go into it.

[In other words, it's totally reasonable for Kyna to have hated it.]

[ Guess who's still bewildered? This guy. But it is what it is. Or was, in this case. ]

'Most of the people sucked' is sort of my overall life experience....
