[Yeah, that's not exactly the best way to put it, because it sounds a bit flippant. But he'll overlook that for the moment, considering the rest of the situation, and the answer lines up with what he'd been told before enough that he thinks this really is a case of different sides and not individual malice. At least in how it started, anyway.]

While understandable, I don't believe that warrants immolation attempts.

[Which he'd told Ephemera also, but he says now to indicate that believes Washington is being truthful and so Lance isn't going to hold the situation against him. At least that is more or less resolved.]

[ Wash shrugs, tense and uncomfortable. Revenge is something he's wanted, too. He can understand Ephemera, that's part of what makes this all so complicated. But. ]

He's not trying to kill me anymore. We're...

[ He can't say getting along, exactly. How to put it? Wash looks to Kyna, like maybe she has the words. ]

We had a truce, but it's something a little better than that now.

Um. Allies?

[That sounds right, she thinks.]

I've been hanging out with Ephemera too, so it's... You know. It's fine.

[Alright, well, that's all promising too, and Lance is willing to trust Kyna's judgment on the whole situation. So he just nods in understanding, ]

That's good. Everyone here has enough to deal with without having to worry about threats from each other, as well as from the gods and the Null.

[ Wash nods, both at Kyna's assessment and Lance's statement. ]

I fixed his flamethrowers the other day -- he got to meet Olympia.

Wait, you did?

[This is... news. And it's not like she expects Ephemera to lose it and torch the city or anything, but.]

Did he ask you to or something?

[Yeah, Lance wants to know the answer to that too; as big of strides as Ephemera has made lately, Lance is not sure letting him have flamethrowers is the best idea. He doesn't think he'll just cheerfully burn down the entire city or anything either, but the potential for problems is still much higher than it would've been without fire-producing weapons.]

No. I just felt like after what we went through... like, I don't know if I'll be able to fix my EMP and losing part of your arsenal makes you feel vulnerable. I broke them in the first place.

[ He's aware Lance probably doesn't know what he's referencing, but Kyna will get it. ]

Yeah, I know, but... He had someone set you on fire.

[And maybe Kyna is just a hair vindictive, but she's not sure she would have helped fix them if she were Wash.]

[Lance's gaze flickers from Washington to Kyna and back, just observing the conversation for now.]

If he tries it again, you can say I told you so.

[ Kyna and the paranoid little voice inside his head that was scolding him the whole time, still calling Ephemera the enemy. He really wants to believe that voice is wrong. ]

I don't think he will. Probably. I mean, I don't think he wants to?

[She frowns, tilting her head as she tries to figure out what she wants to say.]

I'm just saying, uh... I don't know. I don't know if he deserved it, I guess.

[That's an interesting comment from Kyna, and he can't say he blames her for it considering what he knows of a clash between her and Ephemera, but he continues just listening instead of adding any comments of his own.]

[ Deserved? It's an interesting comment, yeah, and Wash isn't sure how to wrap his head around it at first. ]

I wasn't really thinking of it that way.

[She shrugs, shifting awkwardly.]

I don't know. Maybe "deserved" isn't the right word. I don't think I could have been that nice.

[Yep, still just listening; this conversation isn't really his business, though that won't stop him from gathering as much information and insight as he can.]

I don't know. I wasn't trying to be nice, it just felt like the right thing to do when I realized I could.

[ Wait. Lance has been quiet for awhile now, and Wash is starting to worry about what he's thinking. He glances over at Lance with a frown. ]

...are you psychoanalyzing over there?

[Kyna opens her mouth to respond and then shuts it again and frowns when Wash calls out Lance. Is he?]

I'm listening.

[It's a dry answer, but one that's dry enough that it indicates it's purposeful and he's not actually annoyed by the accusation. Not yet, anyway.]

[ Okay.......... but what is he thinking? Wash goes awkwardly quiet, not sure if he should say anything else or if he's said too much already. ]

[evocation]

[Ooookay. Time to save the day by being obnoxious. Kyna wiggles away from Wash just enough to poke at Lance's shoulder.]

Hey, can I psychoanalyze you now? Unless you're afraid I'm gonna show you up.

[Lance watches Washington for just a moment, but is more than content to turn his attention toward Kyna. It isn't his goal to make any of this uncomfortable, after all, so he responds to her question with a light comment of his own.]

As long as you don't use the same fourth-grade joke I did about knowing what you're thinking, sure.

[ Wash almost comments that she can actually do that, there are spells for it, before remembering her magic is gone and that'd be a terrible thing to bring up. So he stays quiet, waiting to hear Kyna's surely spectacular insight. ]

[She tries desperately not to smirk, but she does anyway.]

I think you have deep-seated trauma because your parents never let you have a pet, so you terrorized everyone with a goat instead. And you're kind of a dork.

[When she starts, he is--for just a moment--afraid she's somehow figured it out and, not only that, is about to actually say it. So for that moment he's frozen, a brief look of shock crossing his face, but it's under control an instant later as he hears the rest of what she's saying and realizes it's just a stupid joke. An actually funny, cute stupid joke.

So he manages a genuine smile, even if it might be slightly shakier than usual, voice light when he responds.]

My coworkers deserved having to put up with Fitz, and besides, it wasn't his fault he had to end up at the FBI. But that last part doesn't even count as psychoanalyzing; anyone could tell that much.
